Closing the physical development loop.
There is an infinite amount of engineering to do and a finite number of engineers.Artificial intelligence will be able to design ever more complex systems as frontier performance climbs. We will enable AI systems by closing the physical development loop, giving them control over design, manufacturing, and test.
Doing this will have three consequences:
- Hardware development will be democratized, allowing people of any background to improve their lives and the lives of those around them with innovations.
- Physical design iteration will be massively accelerated.
- Novel technologies will be invented that would otherwise not be possible or comprehensible to human designers.
This will enable the automation of experimental discoveries in science and technology. We stand to benefit from massive acceleration in experimental work. We believe there is no ceiling to physical design work in the long run.
As these systems increase their experience and intelligence through a closed-loop process, they will graduate from mastering assemblies, to machinery, to factories and infrastructure.
Ultimately, AI will be able to design and construct megaproject-scale developments for the benefit of humanity.
Today, we have something that can do design. Soon, we will have automated the manufacturing.
